Delegation Is Self-Care (And No, That’s Not Just a Buzzword)

Let’s talk about something that doesn’t always get the spotlight in the world of motherhood, entrepreneurship, and leadership … delegation.

For years, I believed I could (and should) do it all. Raise kids. Run a business. Make home-cooked meals. Clean the house. Be everywhere for everyone. Sound familiar?

But here’s what I’ve learned: delegation is not giving up. It's showing up better. For your business, your family, and yourself.

Also note, this post may contain affiliate links that may offer benefits for you and me! Thanks for your support, friends.

1. Hire a Virtual Assistant (My Favorite: Well Balanced Business)

If you're constantly buried in your inbox or find yourself putting off important tasks because you're “just too busy,” it might be time to call in reinforcements. Hiring a virtual assistant can feel like handing over a piece of your soul at first, but trust me, it’s freedom. I highly recommend Well Balanced Business if you’re looking for someone who truly gets how to support female entrepreneurs. They’ve been a game-changer for me.

2. Let Your Kids Pitch In (Even If It’s Not Perfect)

No, your kids probably won’t fold the towels like you do. And yes, they’ll probably leave some streaks on the dishes. But when you start including them in everyday household chores like laundry, unloading the dishwasher, or even helping prep dinner, everyone benefits.

They learn responsibility. You get help. And the job? It gets done. (Imperfectly, but done.)

3. Grocery Delivery = Sanity Saver

I’ll shout this from the rooftops: Shipt is worth every penny. Whether I’m deep in work mode, running a meeting, or spending time with my family, having someone else do the grocery run saves me hours each week. I can place an order while waiting in car line or sipping coffee, and check off “grocery shopping” without even leaving the house.

4. Meal Kit Delivery = One Less Dinner Decision

There are so many meal kit options out there these days, and we’ve personally used and loved Marley Spoon. It’s a great way to eliminate the stress of meal planning. You choose a few meals for the week, everything arrives at your door, ingredients + step-by-step recipes, and you're done. You can even filter by how quick you want meals on the table.

It’s another way to delegate one more task on your daily plate without sacrificing the family dinner experience.

5. Bring in a Monthly House Cleaner

Once a month, we have someone come in to do a deep clean. Floors, bathrooms, baseboards … all the things that drive me bonkers but never seem to get done. That one visit makes the rest of the month so much easier to maintain. More importantly, it keeps my anxiety at bay. A clean space = a calm(er) mind.

6. Outsource the Projects That Drain You

Sure, you could probably figure out Canva or update your website… eventually. But that project that takes you five hours could take a designer one. And guess what? They love doing it. So hand it off! Hire a graphic designer, a copywriter, a marketing strategist, someone who’s passionate and skilled.

It’s not just about saving time. It’s about supporting someone else’s business while protecting your energy for what you do best.

Can’t Do It All? Just Start With One Thing.

I get it. Many of these things cost money. And you might not be in a season where you can afford them all. So don’t. Start small. Pick one thing that matters most and delegate it.

Over time, as you create space, you’ll find:

  • More capacity for new clients

  • More income

  • More joy (yes, really)

Delegation isn’t selfish. It’s strategic. It’s supportive. And it’s one of the most powerful forms of self-care you can practice.

So, what’s one thing you’re going to let go of this week?
